One scorching summer day in early September, a grasshopper was merrily chirping and singing to his heart’s content. The grasshopper spied an ant, which was carrying a plump golden kernel of delicious corn to her busy home for the coming winter. The grasshopper questioned, “Why not stop and relax in the cool shade instead of working so very hard?” The ant explained that she was helping to store food for the coming harsh winter and suggested that the grasshopper store also. “I’m not worried because I have plenty of food at present,” declared the grasshopper. When winter finally arrived, he found himself dying of hunger. He realized too late that it was best to prepare before times of need.
