The Liquid Mirror

Tranquil as the glass,
No ripples on the surface,
Reflecting the sky,
Reaching towards the horizons,
Undisturbed by elements,
With beauty which all desire,
Fading to the endless depths.

Its currents flowing-
Under Neptune’s vast mirror,
Whirling unheeded,
Some drifting downwards,
Stirring up the sandy bed-
Of ancient empire’s dust,
Of many, all forgotten.

Bones are ground to stone,
And the finest blades corrode,
War ships slowly break,
Treasures meet their watery graves,
Salt encrusts majestic jewels,
And the tides flow unbothered,
Heedless of the late decay.

The sky clouds over,
As the winds whip the waters,
The sea starts to foam,
Its deep blue succumbs to black,
And its serene mirror cracks,
But when all the clouds disperse,
The mirror reforms again.
