Whoever contradicts the writers contradicts all authors of fantasy. For if the lower writers learn from the more experienced, how can one refute one, and not the other? Therefore, the lesser I tolerate, especially the one who wrote Giufa and the Judge.
Giufa claimed that the moon had set repeatedly under the wispy clouds. Why would someone find this statement unbelievable? For men often enjoy pleasure after work, and as Giufa was a simpleton, his quotes were merely an example of this. Jests, being nonsensical, should not be taken as if one believed what he was saying.
It is said that the thieves left their meat, after hearing Giufa’s cries. Those with guilty conscience hide from discovery, as do the shadows from the light. The guilty heart covers the crime and seeks to run from justice. And because the thieves abandoned their plunder, they escaped from what appeared to be punishment. What? Would one attempt to flee with a burden? For a calf is worth less than capture.
And when Giufa skinned the booty, he instructed his mother to sell the meat, reserving the reward for himself. For meat that is fresh is valuable, and one buys it, seeing its value.
Thus, his mother sold the meat, as Giufa did not specify who to sell it to. And insects, attracted to the next meal, were allured by the product, and so they bought it on credit.
And the judge, with his intent gaze and hunched shoulders, pronounced a sentence on the flies, in accordance to Giufa’s complaint. For his duty is to create a fitting punishment to those who break the law, and the imprisonment of flies is ridiculous.
Giufa cracked the judge’s head. And as for that, expressing emotion is healthy. And stoicity proves inexpedient. Releasing emotion brings relief and progress.
Due to these arguments, I tolerate the story of Giufa and the Judge.
